Laser Cutters

Profiles, products and latest news all in one place

Laser cutters use a focused beam to cut and engrave materials without touching them. In the sign and display trade, CO2 lasers are the most common, cutting acrylic, wood, MDF, paper, card and fabric. On acrylic they leave a smooth, polished edge that needs no further finishing.

They are used for acrylic signs and lettering, point-of-sale, awards, engraved plaques and cutting printed fabric. Large format machines take full sheets, and camera systems allow printed work to be cut accurately along its outline.

When comparing machines, look at bed size and laser power, which governs cutting speed and thickness. Fume extraction is essential, and some materials must never be laser cut: PVC, including foamex, gives off harmful gases. Ask about software, training and the service cover on offer.
