Vivid Signs brings digital cutting in-house with a Dyss X7 table, improving turnaround times on rigid signage and bespoke packaging.
Vivid Signs has brought its finishing operations in-house after installing a pre-owned Dyss X7 digital cutting table in February 2026. Established in 2004, the business previously relied on external trade suppliers for digital cutting, but rising subcontracting costs and limited control over delivery schedules prompted the move to an in-house setup.

Managing Director Chris Newman first evaluated Dyss cutters at a trade show in 2016, and compared multiple machines from suppliers including Jwei and Vivid Veloblade before making the purchase. The company prioritised industrial build quality, single-pass knife cutting on thicker substrates, and integrated heavy routing for aluminium composite material (ACM) and rigid acrylic panels.
Managing Director at Vivid Signs, Chris Newman, commented, “We didn’t feel that those machines were man enough and couldn’t process thicker stock with the drag knife in a single pass. We could have bought a new low-cost machine for the same price as the used Dyss X7, however we liked the industrial qualities of Dyss machines. We felt that they are better built and more able to handle production work.”
Production started immediately following the installation, with the team cutting nylon blanks on day one. Bringing cutting in-house has also freed up shop-floor staff, as jobs that once required two people to measure and cut by hand are now handled digitally. The table’s conveyorised bed also allows the company to cut continuous panels up to seven metres long with seamless joins and no manual trimming required.
Paired with Kasemake software, the cutter has opened up new commercial work in short-run packaging and custom boxes. Instead of ordering batches of 25 to 50 stock boxes and tying up workshop floor space, Vivid Signs now stocks standard corrugated sheets and produces boxes to order. Dedicated tooling, including a rotary blade and an XVT tool, allows the table to cut porous display fabrics, triple-wall corrugated board, and structural honeycomb panels.
Newman concluded, “We can now offer new materials to our customers, with complete confidence that the Dyss will deal with them. I would definitely recommend the Dyss X7 to anyone looking to invest in digital cutting.”
