HP unveils DesignJet Z6 and Z9+ Plus Edition at FESPA

HP has used the platform of FESPA Global Print Expo 2026 in Barcelona to reveal the HP DesignJet Z6 and Z9+ PostScript Printer Series Plus Edition. Engineered primarily for small and medium-sized businesses, such as commercial photo studios, retailers, copy shops, and architecture firms, the new series builds on an industrial foundation with over 40,000 installations globally. The updated models combine hardware features from previous design generations into a unified, high-output graphics solution.

The Plus Edition printers feature HP Pixel Control technology and HP Vivid Photo Inks, which work in tandem to produce water and fade resistant prints with smooth gradients and fine text detail. By utilising the manufacturer’s proprietary dual-drop technology, the systems deliver photo-quality outputs without requiring light-coloured inks, reducing overall fluid consumption whilst maintaining high speeds across diverse media types. The Z9+ Plus Edition is specifically configured for colour-critical environments, incorporating an embedded X-Rite i1 spectrophotometer for automated colour calibration and an optional Gloss Enhancer module to maintain gloss uniformity on photo papers.

Daniel Martinez, SVP and Division President of HP Large Format Printing, said, “Print businesses today need to do more with less – faster turnaround, broader applications, and consistent quality. The HP DesignJet Z6 and Z9+ PostScript Printer Series Plus Edition is built to deliver the precision, quality, and productivity customers need to grow profitably.”

Production efficiency has been a core focus of the hardware overhaul. Internal testing indicates that the new productivity print modes can reduce printing time by up to 90% on coated papers compared to standard settings. They can be configured with dual-roll support, automatic roll switching, and an integrated vertical trimmer, reducing manual operator intervention and secondary post-processing cutting stages. The series features HP Wolf Pro Security protocols to protect network data and will be generally available from 22 June 2026.

Along with the new hardware, HP has introduced updates to its cloud-based HP PrintOS Production Hub software suite. To streamline customer proofing, a new Order Approval feature allows clients to review, request adjustments, and sign off on jobs directly within the platform. A new Orders API facilitates direct connectivity with third-party CRM, ERP, and MIS platforms to eliminate manual data entry errors. Additionally, an integrated “AI Upscale Image” tool automatically enhances the resolution of low-quality files during pre-press preparation, minimising waste and unnecessary reprints.

FESPA also marks the first European trade show appearance for the HP Latex FS70 W printer since its introduction in October 2025. Developed as a high-productivity platform featuring high-opacity white ink capabilities, the press is seeing strong regional adoption. Among the early users in the EMEA region is Italian professional photo lab Newlab, which integrated the platform to meet growing commercial demand for premium applications on transparent and speciality rigid and flexible substrates.

Giuliano Goffi, Owner of Newlab, noted, “The quality impressed us immediately, but above all, it was the productivity gains that stood out. The HP Latex FS70 W has significantly reduced our production times while opening new creative possibilities with white ink across a much wider range of applications.”

The entire updated graphics and textile line-up, including the DesignJet Plus Edition, the PrintOS workflow suite, and established hardware such as the Latex R2000 and 630W systems, is being demonstrated live on Stand 30 in Hall 2 throughout the week.
