Domino Printing Sciences has implemented GS1-powered 2D QR codes across its entire range of coding equipment and consumables.
Coding and marking solutions provider Domino Printing Sciences has completed the internal rollout of QR codes powered by GS1 across its global equipment and consumables portfolio. By implementing the GS1 Digital Link standard within its own manufacturing and distribution infrastructure, the vendor aims to evaluate operational integration challenges firsthand while supporting industrial clients making the transition to 2D barcodes.

Under the rollout, all equipment and consumable items manufactured by Domino now feature a GS1-standard 2D code. A single scan provides operators, field engineers, and supply chain partners with direct access to technical specifications, safety data sheets, compliance certifications, and reordering channels. The standardisation reduces reliance on multiple physical on-product labels while improving value-chain traceability and inventory tracking.
The internal transition required Domino to audit and standardise internal product data, update enterprise systems to support GS1 Digital Link architecture, and establish long-term data governance protocols. The exercise highlighted that adopting 2D codes relies as heavily on data structuring and backend software alignment as it does on physical printing and marking hardware.
Global Business Development Director at Domino Printing Sciences, Craig Stobie, commented, “Our customers rely on us for more than the technology itself. They also look to us for guidance as new standards emerge, and their coding requirements evolve.”
Stobie added, “We recognised early that QR codes powered by GS1 would become increasingly important for many of our customers. By implementing GS1 Digital Link across our own global operation, we were able to experience the same issues many manufacturers will face, from data preparation and system integration to governance and long-term maintenance. Those lessons are now helping shape the guidance Domino provides to customers embarking on the same journey.”
Head of QR at GS1 UK, Magda Dudziak-Ćwieczkowska, stated, “The move to QR codes powered by GS1 marks an important step in the evolution of product identification, giving businesses the opportunity to connect trusted product data to physical products in a more flexible and accessible way.”
Dudziak-Ćwieczkowska concluded, “As a GS1 UK Approved partner, Domino is well placed to understand the practical considerations involved in implementing standards-based solutions. Its own rollout of QR codes powered by GS1 across its product and consumables portfolio gives the company first-hand experience of the data, systems and governance work that many manufacturers will need to consider as adoption grows.”
