Mimaki Ink Saving Technology helps PSPs cut ink use

Available on select models via the RasterLink7 RIP software, the ink saving tool offers five distinct levels of reduction.

In the current print market, balancing high-quality output with operational efficiency and environmental responsibility is a primary concern for businesses. To attempt to address the significant cost of consumables, Mimaki has developed an Ink Saving functionality that allows users to reduce ink consumption through automated adjustments to colour profiles and densities.

According to Markus Jürgensen, owner of Print and More, using Mimaki’s Ink Saving functionality has allowed the company to reduce ink consumption by around 30%

Available on select models via the RasterLink7 RIP software, the tool offers five distinct levels of reduction. Level 1 provides approximately a 10% reduction, while Level 5 can achieve up to 50%, depending on the specific application. Markus Jürgensen, owner of Print and More, uses the feature on a Mimaki CJV200-130. Jürgensen says, “We make good use of the ink saving option, usually at level 3. At around 30% ink reduction, it works very well for us without any compromise to quality.”

The integration of this tool into the existing workflow ensures that efficiency gains do not add operational complexity. This is particularly relevant for high-volume environments where short turnaround times are standard. By reducing the volume of ink used per job, businesses also lower the number of cartridges required, which directly reduces material waste and disposal needs.

UK distributor Hybrid Services supports these efficiency gains with its long-standing “Let’s Do MORE!” scheme. Since 2008, this initiative has provided customers with a rebate-linked solvent cartridge recycling programme, rewarding responsible waste management with free ink.

Further cost reductions are available through Mimaki’s BS4 solvent ink option. Andrew Edwards of Hybrid Services says, “Opting for Mimaki BS4 inks can significantly reduce consumable expenditure. When combined with the easy-to-use Ink Saving functionality, it delivers a meaningful reduction in ink spend, while retaining the long-term warranties associated with Mimaki’s latest solvent printer range.”

As environmental regulations and client expectations regarding sustainability continue to evolve, the use of these technical tools and regional recycling frameworks provides a structured method for print providers to monitor and reduce their operational footprint.
