KDR Projects praises impact of Vivid VeloBlade Nexus investment

Scottish graphics specialist KDR Projects has marked one year of operation with the Vivid VeloBlade Nexus

KDR Projects, a Pathhead-based graphics and signage company, has highlighted the operational benefits following the installation of a Vivid VeloBlade Nexus digital die cutter. Purchased through Soyang Hardware and installed in March 2025, the flatbed cutting system has become a central component of the firm’s direct-to-substrate production workflow.

Founded in 2021 near Edinburgh, KDR Projects produces a wide range of applications, including museum displays, exhibition branding, and bespoke window graphics. The investment in the VeloBlade Nexus was driven by a requirement to bring finishing in-house, moving away from manual hand-cutting or the added expense of ordering pre-cut panels.

The Vivid VeloBlade Nexus is equipped with a versatile toolset featuring a drag knife, crease wheel, and oscillating knife, with an optional CNC router. This allows the machine to process an extensive array of substrates, ranging from fluted cardboard and foam PVC to rigid materials such as MDF, acrylic, and Dibond.

Kerry De Vos, Director of KDR Projects, commented, “We were looking for efficiency to go alongside our direct-to-substrate offering. Since installation, it has been running work such as cut-to-shape stickers, cardboard panels, jigsaw puzzles, outdoor graphics and various signage solutions. Being able to cut boards and panels with the VeloBlade saves us either having to hand-cut them or ordering them in cut-to-size. As a result, it has allowed us to save both time and money.”

Sustainability has also been a key factor in the company’s success. KDR Projects maintains GREENGUARD-certified print capabilities, ensuring low VOC emissions for sensitive environments like healthcare and education. The addition of the VeloBlade Nexus supports this eco-conscious approach by enabling the efficient processing of recyclable card and paper-based materials.

De Vos added, “We can print straight onto materials made from card or paper, then cut them out using the new machine. All this means we can be more efficient and sustainable as a business.”

The partnership with Soyang Hardware, which began at the Sign and Digital UK exhibition, has provided KDR Projects with a scalable finishing solution that matches the high-quality output of its printing department while significantly improving overall turnaround times.
