Converters integrate Domino N610i-R module onto existing flexo lines

Two label converters have integrated the Domino N610i-R digital retrofit module to add digital capabilities to their existing flexo presses.

Domino Printing Sciences has detailed how its N610i-R digital retrofit module is transforming production for two international label converters. Great Lakes Label in the US and Jenacre Labels in the UK have both integrated the technology to add digital printing capabilities to their existing flexo lines.

The N610i-R module enables businesses to incorporate digital printing without investing in a completely new press footprint. Domino positions the solution as a cost-effective method to handle increasing demands for shorter runs, faster turnarounds, and greater customisation.

Great Lakes Label installed the N610i-R as part of a Mark Andy DSiQ-R digital retrofit solution. The company added the capability to its existing Mark Andy Performance Series P5 flexo press. Tony Cook, Founder and CEO of Great Lakes Label, explains the motivation: “With growing demand for shorter production runs and variable printing, we knew digital was the next logical step. But we wanted to do it in a way that complemented our existing capabilities without compromising efficiency.”

Cook claims that the installation has freed up approximately 30 per cent of capacity on the company’s other presses. He describes the partnership as a “game-changer” that allows the firm to maintain the benefits of flexo production while adding high-efficiency digital printing.

In the UK, Jenacre Labels faced similar market pressures. Managing Director David Duncan sought a solution for the short-run production of multi-page peel-and-reveal labels, which often require complex variable data. The company integrated the module onto one of its Nilpeter presses.

Duncan rejected the idea of a standalone digital press due to the additional offline finishing requirements. He states: “From day one, the ability to efficiently run multiple SKUs has been an asset and print consistency has been excellent. Being able to do pre- and on-press adjustments without having to remix inks or wait for plates has made a substantial difference, boosting production time, efficiency, and reducing our lead times.”

Michael Matthews, Product Manager – DP Colour at Domino Printing Sciences, comments on the strategic value of the technology. He says: “At Domino, we’re proud to support converters in boosting production flexibility, reducing lead times, and streamlining operations.” Matthews adds that projects like the N610i-R demonstrate the company’s commitment to delivering practical solutions that help customers remain competitive.
