Canon adds varioPRESS iV7 and varioPRINT iX1700

Canon has announced the commercial availability of its new B2 sheetfed inkjet press, the varioPRESS iV7, and the B3 varioPRINT iX1700

Canon has announced the commercial availability of its latest production inkjet technologies, the varioPRESS iV7 and varioPRINT iX1700. This launch builds on Canon’s established position in sheetfed inkjet printing and is intended to empower commercial printers to migrate jobs from existing digital devices and shorter runs from offset presses.

The varioPRESS iV7 (B2)

The varioPRESS iV7, Canon’s latest B2 sheetfed press, is capable of printing 8,700 B2 sheets 4/0 per hour, equating to up to 4.5 million B2 images per month in a 24/6 operation. The printer was first announced at drupa 2024 and is expected to be available from Q2 2026.

The press is designed for efficient short-run B2 production and aims to address the needs of commercial print service providers (PSPs), online printers, and book and magazine producers. Its production capabilities and quality are intended to enable these businesses to meet tighter deadlines and produce shorter runs, as well as more premium applications.

The varioPRINT iX1700 (B3)

In addition to the varioPRESS iV7, Canon has confirmed that its B3 inkjet platform, the varioPRINT iX1700 sheetfed press, will also be available from Q2 2026. The new press offers speeds of up to 170 A4 images per minute, or 73 B3 images per minute. It is designed to efficiently produce average monthly volumes ranging from 300,000 to 2 million A4 images.

The varioPRINT iX1700 inkjet platform features Canon’s new Qualinx technology and combines new and proven Canon technologies. The development draws on Canon’s expertise in inkjet and sheetfed printing from its R&D centres in Japan, Germany, and The Netherlands to produce consistent, high-quality prints for today’s commercial and in-house print service providers.

Strategic Portfolio Expansion

These two new inkjet presses join the existing varioPRINT iX3200/2100 models, creating a broad portfolio of sheetfed presses. Canon states that this range serves PSPs of every size and delivers a vast array of print products for monthly volumes from 15,000 A4 images up to 4.5 million B2 images. The addition of the varioPRESS iV7 and varioPRINT iX1700 is intended to provide growing PSPs with a clear technology upgrade path.

Stuart Rising, Head of Graphic Arts at Canon UK & Ireland, says, “With the introduction of the varioPRESS iV7 and varioPRINT iX1700, we can now offer customers the broadest range of digital sheetfed presses in the industry.” He adds that this expansion reinforces Canon’s position as a leader within the digital production print market, supported by its experience in digital printing.

The varioPRESS iV7 and varioPRINT iX1700 will be commercially available from Q2 2026. Customer demonstrations will be available at Canon’s Customer Experience Centre in Venlo, The Netherlands, from January 2026.
