Sustainable Print Manifesto launches Implementation Framework in Valencia

Launched at the FuturePrint Summit in Valencia, the Implementation Framework for More Sustainable Print gives print service providers a common pathway to measure, manage, and communicate sustainability performance.

The Sustainable Print Manifesto has officially launched the Implementation Framework for More Sustainable Print at the FuturePrint Packaging, Labels and DTS Summit in Valencia. Building upon the nine universal principles established when the Manifesto was first unveiled in April 2025, the new framework turns those principles into practical actions, a common set of indicators, and a maturity model designed to help print service providers measure progress and demonstrate performance.

The Sustainable Print Manifesto has launched its Implementation Framework for More Sustainable Print at the FuturePrint Summit in Valencia.

Developed collaboratively with leading brands, retailers, and partners across the industry, the framework provides a practical and adaptable foundation. It deliberately avoids prescribing specific technologies or materials, offering a common pathway through a complex sustainability landscape so businesses of any size or sector can determine what to measure, what action to take, and how to communicate progress to buyers. At the heart of the framework is the principle that progress beats perfection. Rather than demanding that businesses overhaul everything at once, it guides them through sequential steps, from measuring performance for the first time through to actively managing improvements and sharing data across the value chain.

Elena Knight, Marketing and Content Director at FuturePrint, the facilitating partner for the Sustainable Print Manifesto, said: “The first Manifesto established what more sustainable print looks like. The Framework now enables OEMs, technology providers, printers and PSPs to demonstrate meaningful progress to their customers in a shared language. That matters because becoming more sustainable shouldn’t simply be an obligation – it should also make businesses more attractive to the brands and buyers they want to work with. But this is a platform, not a full stop. The work continues, and we’re inviting the whole industry to build it with us.”

The launch comes as the print and packaging sectors face growing pressure from tightening regulations, rising customer expectations, and the movement toward item-level transparency through initiatives such as Digital Product Passports. By establishing shared definitions, the framework aims to reduce industry fragmentation and combat greenwashing.

The initiative is supported across the print value chain by Development Partners including Cimpress, HP, Gallus, Domino, Sun Chemical, Nazdar, and Canon Group, alongside numerous supporting partners and industry contributors. Following the launch, the conversation will continue as sustainability expert Steve Lister introduces the framework to a UK audience at the Sign and Print Show in Birmingham.
