Sun Chemical has launched its next-generation SolarFlex FSP UV flexographic ink range, providing a high-speed, food-compliant solution that meets evolving regulatory requirements such as the German Ink Ordinance.
Sun Chemical has launched its next-generation SolarFlex FSP UV flexographic ink range, providing label and packaging manufacturers with a food-compliant solution that meets evolving regulatory requirements while delivering the productivity, print quality, and low migration performance demanded by the packaging market.

The newly upgraded SolarFlex FSP formulation meets or surpasses the requirements of the German Ink Ordinance (GIO) and the Swiss Ink Ordinance (SIO) through selected raw materials and low migration performance, and is suitable for labels, sleeves, and packaging applications. The new formulation also offers low odour, excellent printability, low viscosity, and fast curing, meeting high print speed and productivity requirements in the label and packaging sectors. The solution protects product integrity by minimising the risk of migration, flavour transfer, and odour contamination.
Available in standard and intense four-colour, expanded colour gamut process inks, and high-strength mono-pigmented blending colours, the range offers label and packaging manufacturers the flexibility required to meet a broad spectrum of brand colours and packaging requirements. The new range of SolarFlex FSP UV flexo inks has undergone successful trials and validations at key label and packaging customers across Europe. This included successful migration testing and odour assessments at printing speeds above 200 metres per minute, confirming high-speed production capability while meeting compliance requirements for the upcoming GIO and other regulations.
Jonathan Sexton, Product Manager for Energy Curing at Sun Chemical, comments: “Packaging regulations continue to evolve across Europe, creating new challenges for manufacturers and brand owners. Our next-generation SolarFlex FSP inks have been developed to help customers remain compliant without compromising performance and output. The upgraded formulation fully meets increasingly strict regulations and enables packaging manufacturers and brand owners to achieve their sustainability objectives.”
The launch forms part of Sun Chemical’s broader commitment to supporting the labels and packaging industry with migration-compliant solutions that help customers prepare for current and upcoming regulatory requirements.
