Meridian 3 Shifts to personalised production with Roland DG

Meridian 3 scales its personalised product range and streamlines production with the Roland DG EU-1000MF UV LED flatbed printer.

In response to the rapidly growing personalisation economy, Meridian 3 has transitioned its operations from traditional commercial print toward high-value customised products. Originally a provider of business cards and brochures, the company identified a significant shift in buyer behaviour, with customers increasingly seeking unique, short-run items such as jigsaw puzzles, medals, and bespoke stationery.

The catalyst for this transformation was the investment in a Roland DG EU-1000MF UV LED flatbed printer. The business began exploring the personalisation market in 2021 with a single request for a custom jigsaw puzzle, which quickly revealed a viable new revenue stream. To scale this opportunity, Meridian 3 required a technology partner capable of delivering reliability during high-pressure seasonal peaks.

The EU-1000MF was selected for its ability to print directly onto a diverse array of rigid substrates, including wood, acrylic, and aluminium. This direct-to-substrate capability allowed Meridian 3 to eliminate several manual production steps, significantly reducing turnaround times. Furthermore, the use of high-density, low-cost E-US inks has enabled the firm to produce premium textures and layered effects, adding a tactile dimension to their product lines.

Barry Smith, Managing Director at Meridian 3, commented, “Personalisation is what our customers are asking for and this technology allows us to deliver it at scale – quickly, consistently and to a high standard.”

The installation process, managed alongside After Service Offset Supplies, required a high degree of flexibility following Meridian 3’s relocation to a new facility. When operational requirements necessitated moving the printer shortly after setup, the Roland DG support team managed the transition to ensure minimal disruption to the workflow.

Smith added, “The Roland DG team have been fantastic. The team came down and moved the printer for us, gave us plenty of training and helped with colour control and quality. They’ve been really good to us.”

The investment has not only expanded the company’s consumer-facing offering—including seasonal decorations and notebooks—but has also eased the burden on existing equipment, allowing other machinery to remain focused on core B2B contracts. With the integration of Roland DG Connect for real-time performance monitoring, Meridian 3 is now positioned to continue its diversification into hyper-customisation while maintaining the consistent quality its customers expect
