The Big Display Company Expands Fabric Printing with HP Stitch

The Big Display Company has installed an HP Stitch S1000 fabric and textile dye sublimation printer, enabling the company to expand into the events sector.

Family-run large format print specialist The Big Display Company has improved its production capabilities and expanded into new markets following the installation of an HP Stitch S1000 fabric and textile dye sublimation printer. The new device, supplied by approved HP partner Papergraphics, was installed in April of this year.

Based in Slough, The Big Display Company offers services across large format print, POS, fabrics, and short-run promotional packaging. The business is led by Managing Director Vince Murphy, with his sons Jack and Joe serving as Marketing Director and Sales Director, respectively.

The company first diversified into large-format printing 20 years ago, initially focusing on products such as banners and stickers for events before moving into trade work. Previous hardware purchases included an HP Latex 3600 and an HP Latex R-Series.

The latest HP machine, the Stitch S1000, has allowed the business to move into the high-profile events sector. Marketing Director Jack Murphy states that the new device has taken the business “to the next level”.

“We are now printing our normal fabrics at a much higher capacity including flags, display polyester, and stretch fabrics,” Mr Murphy explains. This is in addition to a range of new paper transfer products including polyester Lycra, polyester-based canvas, and backlit fabrics.

Enhanced Production Capabilities

The HP Stitch S1000 has a maximum print width of 3.2m and can achieve a top speed of 220 sq m/hr in two-pass mode. Running with 10L ink cartridges, the machine offers a native printhead resolution of 1200 dpi and features a ‘Drop & Dry’ print-zone dryer.

The impact of the new machine has allowed The Big Display Company to ramp up production. The printer now runs unattended overnight, enabling the company to take on high-volume jobs, widen its customer base, and enhance its offering for existing clients.

One of The Big Display Company’s largest customers, a leading event production company working in film and television, has reported an improvement in both the quality and stability of printed materials since the installation.

“They’re able to ask us to meet even the shortest deadlines with complete confidence,” Mr Murphy says. “On a regular basis, we’re printing hundreds of square metres within a working day for them, without interrupting the rest of our production department.”

The company has now launched a new website to maximise the use of the HP printer, which includes full integration with its MIQ system, printiQ. This system is intended to streamline straightforward jobs, enabling the team to centre its focus on more complex projects.
