The Derby-based large-format graphics and signage company said the HP Stitch S1000 has helped advance both its sustainable production strategy and wider growth plans.

Celebrating its 40th year in business in 2025, MX Display is a diversified print and signage company, working with customers across projects such as window, wall and floor graphics, as well as fabric displays, wayfinding and other forms of signage. This expansive offering has seen the business work with a range of clients including the NHS, BT, Kia and Liverpool Football Club.

Securing business from such high-profile customers has been made possible by the company’s commitment to high quality in each project it takes on. The company regularly invests in new equipment to ensure it can continue to meet these high standards and retain valuable customers.

It was this approach that led MX Display to purchase an HP Stitch S1000 from approved HP partner RA Smart. The company took delivery of the machine in November 2023, with the printer having since established itself as an integral part of daily operations at the MX Display site in Derby.

“We chose to work with HP Stitch technology because it offers the colour accuracy, efficiency, ease of use and reliability that are critical to our business, especially in producing soft signage and branded commercial environments,” said Adrian Rushton, Managing Director of MX Display. “Having been early adopters of dye sublimation printing over a decade ago, we’re familiar with the benefits of this technology. The HP Stitch has fitted seamlessly into our workflow, delivering the vibrant, high-quality results our clients expect.”

New opportunities

MX Display has been using the HP Stitch device to produce work across a range of polyester-based materials including blockout, backlit, flag, and air-mesh fabrics. As the company prints onto transfer paper, this also gives it the flexibility to sublimate onto bespoke materials such as stretch fabrics, carpets, luxury velvets, and suede-type textiles, thus opening up an array of creative and custom branding opportunities for its customers.

“The HP Stitch plays a key role in our wider production ecosystem, complementing our UV and Latex print technologies,” Adrian said. “While those platforms handle a wide range of rigid and flexible substrates, the Stitch technology gives us the dedicated capacity we need for high-quality textile applications. It allows us to offer a complete solution to our clients by expanding our capabilities into premium soft signage and fabric-based branding for commercial environments.

“In short, the HP Stitch enables us to deliver the tactile quality and vibrant colour that textile applications demand, while freeing up our other print platforms to focus on their own unique strengths. It’s a key part of how we maintain efficiency, versatility, and high standards across all areas of production.”

Sustainable progress

Adrian also said that the HP Stitch S1000 has had a positive impact on the company’s environmental targets, which has in turn extended the type of work it can produce. The machine runs water-based dye sublimation inks, which are OEKO-TEX certified, allowing MX Display to create applications for use in sensitive environments such as retail and hospitality.

This has fitted in with the company’s ‘Eco Graphics’ range, which is designed to help clients achieve their branding goals while reducing environmental impact. This includes using PVC-free materials, recyclable fabrics, water-based inks, and more energy-efficient production methods – something that the HP Stitch S1000 certainly supports.

“As a large-format signage and graphics company, we understand the impact our industry can have on the environment, which is why sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for us; it’s a responsibility,” Adrian said. “Our focus on sustainable print practices is driven by a genuine commitment to reducing waste, lowering carbon emissions, and offering our clients smarter, cleaner solutions.

“We actively encourage our customers to choose sustainable print options because we believe it’s possible to deliver exceptional visual impact without compromising the planet. Many of our clients, particularly in retail, events, and corporate sectors, are under increasing pressure to meet their own environmental goals. By offering a range of Eco Graphics we help them achieve those targets while maintaining high standards of quality and creativity.

“Ultimately, it’s about future-proofing our industry. As demand grows for greener alternatives, we’re proud to lead the charge, investing in technologies, materials, and processes that support a more sustainable approach to large-format print.”
