Mimaki to support digital art exhibition

The exhibition promises “a diverse array of unique concepts that skilfully harness the essence of printing technologies pushing boundaries in the realm of art.”

Mimaki is supporting an exhibition that brings together art and printing technologies, to be held in Amsterdam, NL, from 20th-29th June. METAMO presents Digital G-O-D at Vrij Paleis, a theme explored through the works of 20 urban artists including ANTZ (SG), Collin van der Sluijs (NL), Frankey (NL), Humanoise (JP/SG), Mossy Giant (NL), and Zedz (NL), to name a few. This is the exhibition’s second edition after debuting in Singapore’s UltraSuperNew Gallery in 2020, maintaining the core value of collaborating with local communities to explore knowledge and connections.

The exhibition features 30 intricately crafted 3D printed works, conceptualised and designed by participating artists. Several of these collaborative pieces were brought to life through the expertise of ‘humanoise’, who transformed the artists’ original designs into detailed 3D models.

Complementing these are 27 innovative 2D print works that push the boundaries of contemporary printing technologies through a refined artistic lens. These pieces employ a range of advanced techniques—including UV printing, sublimation, and digital plotters—on diverse and visually striking materials such as acrylic, canvas, and holographic paper, offering a bold exploration of surface, texture, and dimension.

The group exhibition brings a lot of different art styles under one roof, hoping to serve as reminder that our evolution depends on encounters outside of our own comfort zone. The curator ‘humanoise’ (Taketo Kobayashi), who is a founding member of METAMO Industries, believes, “Art (at least) should be a space where we can unite in our differences. The world feels more divided than ever – right versus wrong, black versus white, artists who embrace AI and those who feel exploited by it. Yet throughout history, unification has been the core strategy of life’s evolution, while division has served the aims of conquerors.”

METAMO is a collective of consummate professionals, whose expertise spans the uppermost echelons of the creative industries, including high-end visual effects, digital artistry, immersive media, and audio production. The collective aspires to be an all-encompassing communal platform, nurturing artistic and creative endeavours globally, and will take on Amsterdam for the first time with Digital G-O-D as an opportunity for participating artists to showcase their masterpieces.

Prepare to immerse yourself in a diverse array of unique concepts that skilfully harness the essence of printing technologies pushing boundaries in the realm of art. Employing cutting-edge digital technologies such as 3DCG, 2D UV Printing, 3D printing, digital plotting and photogrammetry as their virtual “brush,” the artists create a dynamic atmosphere for audiences to encounter rising technological advancements, while also offering a critical lens towards the value of creation and autonomy in an increasingly homogenised and automated world.
