Digidelta BIOND films achieve top TÜV Austria bio-based rating

Digidelta has announced that its BIOND range of printable films has secured independent ‘OK biobased’ certification from TÜV Austria.

Digidelta, a specialist manufacturer of visual communication materials, has announced that its BIOND range of bio-based printable films has secured ‘OK biobased’ certification from TÜV Austria. The company states that independent testing confirmed top ratings for renewable carbon content across the range.

Digidelta BIOND films have received four-star bio-based certification.

The ‘OK biobased’ label verifies the percentage of a product made from renewable and plant-based sources rather than fossil resources. The certification process involves laboratory testing, such as radiocarbon analysis under EN 16640 / ASTM D6866 methods. TÜV Austria awards ratings ranging from one star to four stars based on the bio-based carbon content. The top-level four-star rating requires a score of 80 per cent or higher.

Digidelta reports that four products within the BIOND collection have secured this top rating. BIOND Clear Glossy achieved the highest score with 96 per cent renewable carbon content. BIOND Clear Matte followed closely at 95 per cent, while BIOND Clear Matte Embossed rated at 94 per cent. BIOND White Glossy/Matte achieved an 80 per cent rating.

Armando Mota, CEO of Digidelta, comments on the achievement: “We are delighted to have secured this independent certification from the highly knowledgeable team at TÜV Austria. It clarifies what we have known about BIOND since we first launched the product range, in that the materials within this collection deliver a highly sustainable solution to printers, all while performing at the same level as PVC films.”

The company launched the BIOND range at the 2025 FESPA Global Print Expo. The new certification coincides with Digidelta’s 40th anniversary in 2026. Founded in 1986, the business has evolved from digital imaging to manufacturing.

To support the advancement of new media solutions, Digidelta is currently developing a new 15,000 sq m factory in Torres Novas. The company expects to complete the facility this year. Upon completion, the site will house four coating lines, 1,300 racks, and five specialist slitters. Digidelta states this will enable the production of 75 million square metres of materials per annum. Additionally, the facility will offer jumbo conversion capacity of 100 million square metres per year.

Mota adds “This certification demonstrates that BIOND brings together innovative design, environmental responsibility and industrial performance – all in a single product.”
