Canon UK completes fleet overhaul with all electric and hybrid fleet

Canon UK has announced the replacement of its fleet of engineers’ vehicles with electric and hybrid vehicles. The programme will deliver tangible results towards Canon’s sustainability objectives through decarbonising its engineering and service operations.

In partnership with Skoda, deployment of the new vehicles began in June, with the rollout completed in September. 72% of the fleet will consist of electric vehicles, with the remaining 28% driving hybrid vehicles.

Canon has engineers working across the country and, by transitioning from a predominantly diesel-powered fleet, expects to reduce its Scope 1 operational emissions by approximately 50%.

The road to electric

To encourage adoption rates, Canon offered free home EV chargers for engineers choosing an electric vehicle. For engineers who opted for hybrid vehicles, enhanced mileage tracking and telematics will help reduce overall emissions and offset residual environmental impact.

The move towards a more sustainable fleet reinforces Canon’s commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen and expressing its Kyosei corporate philosophy – living and working together for the common good. It also marks a significant step towards meeting Canon’s commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Sustainable serviceability

Canon is leading the way in sustainable servicing, pairing innovations in smart serviceability with self-service portals to support customers with their evolving servicing needs. Together with a new all electric and hybrid fleet, Canon is using technology to reduce the environmental impact of its servicing operation while continuing to deliver exceptional customer service.

And, with the emphasis both Public and Private sector procurement require for organisations to demonstrate their commitment to minimising their environmental impact, Canon’s sustainable fleet rollout adds to its credentials.

Steve Cooper, Country Director Services & Support, Canon UK & Ireland comments: “Our move to an electric and hybrid fleet marks a major milestone in our mission to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. This ambition has been met with real excitement from engineers who have embraced the shift, with the majority opting for electric vehicles. Along with remote monitoring, our upgraded fleet further reduces the environmental impact of Canon’s service operations, while continuing to deliver exceptional customer service.”

Amy Nash, Area Fleet Manager at Skoda UK adds: “At Skoda, we’re continuing to expand our electric and hybrid offering and we’re excited to work with Canon on their fleet renewal to support its sustainability objectives. The Enyaq EV and Octavia Estate MHEV offers Canon’s engineers a modern and comfortable vehicle ready to meet future customer demand, while reducing its environmental impact.”
