Canon UK has announced the replacement of its fleet of engineers’ vehicles with electric and hybrid vehicles. The programme will deliver tangible results towards Canon’s sustainability objectives through decarbonising its engineering and service operations.
In partnership with Skoda, deployment of the new vehicles began in June, with the rollout completed in September. 72% of the fleet will consist of electric vehicles, with the remaining 28% driving hybrid vehicles.
Canon has engineers working across the country and, by transitioning from a predominantly diesel-powered fleet, expects to reduce its Scope 1 operational emissions by approximately 50%.
The road to electric
To encourage adoption rates, Canon offered free home EV chargers for engineers choosing an electric vehicle. For engineers who opted for hybrid vehicles, enhanced mileage tracking and telematics will help reduce overall emissions and offset residual environmental impact.
The move towards a more sustainable fleet reinforces Canon’s commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen and expressing its Kyosei corporate philosophy – living and working together for the common good. It also marks a significant step towards meeting Canon’s commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Sustainable serviceability
Canon is leading the way in sustainable servicing, pairing innovations in smart serviceability with self-service portals to support customers with their evolving servicing needs. Together with a new all electric and hybrid fleet, Canon is using technology to reduce the environmental impact of its servicing operation while continuing to deliver exceptional customer service.
